My Go-To Kitchen Techniques
Practical cooking systems I use every day to build real flavor without relying on a salt shaker.
Over the years, I've developed simple, repeatable cooking systems that help create flavorful meals without depending heavily on salt.
These are the same techniques I use in my own kitchen and teach throughout noaddedsaltguy cooking classes, family-style meals, and meal systems.
Some help lower sodium.
Some save time.
Some make food taste better without adding extra ingredients.
Most do all three.
My goal isn't to make cooking more complicated.
It's to make it simpler, more practical, and easier to repeat.

Cooking shouldn't feel complicated.
It should feel practical, repeatable, and realistic.
Some of My Go-To Techniques
Herb-Infused Pasta Water
Instead of relying on salt alone, I often use herbs and aromatics to gently flavor the pasta water before the pasta is even added.
It's another way to build flavor throughout the meal instead of waiting until the very end.
The One-Pan Flavor Method
One of my favorite ways to cook is letting proteins, vegetables, herbs, aromatics, and cooking fats work together in the same pan.
Instead of cooking everything separately, the ingredients naturally season one another as the meal develops, creating layers of flavor that are difficult to achieve any other way.
Pressing Brine Out of Chicken
Many grocery-store chicken breasts are packed in a sodium solution.
Before cooking, I often press out some of that excess liquid to help reduce sodium while improving browning and texture.
Breadcrumb Blend System
Base Blend
-
4 ounces breadcrumbs (I usually use low-carb bread)
-
1 ounce almond flour
-
1 tablespoon granulated garlic
-
1 bunch fresh parsley, chopped
-
1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
-
1 teaspoon dried rosemary
Mix thoroughly, then let the blend rest in the freezer overnight so the flavors distribute evenly.
I keep it stored in the freezer so it's always ready to use.
How I Use It
This blend creates crunch, texture, and flavor without relying on salty packaged coatings.
I use it for pork chops, chicken filets, chicken nuggets, vegetables, and many other breaded meals.
My Go-To Marinade
Most of my marinades begin with a simple combination of oil, garlic, herbs, and black pepper.
From there, I adjust the herbs depending on the meal.
Starting with a simple homemade marinade adds flavor before the food ever reaches the pan.
Low-Sodium Cheese Balancing
Rather than relying heavily on one salty cheese, I combine smaller amounts of different cheeses to create better balance, more depth, and a fuller flavor: equal parts, Romano, Asiago and parm
Building Sauces From the Ingredients
One of the biggest lessons I learned is that many great sauces are already hiding inside the meal.
Tomatoes break down naturally.
Mushrooms release moisture.
Proteins leave flavorful pan drippings.
Herbs and aromatics season the cooking fat.
When those ingredients come together, the pan becomes the foundation of the sauce.
Buying Ingredients for Flexibility
I rarely shop with one recipe in mind.
Instead, I buy ingredients based on sales, versatility, and how many different meals they can become.
That approach keeps cooking affordable while making meal planning much easier.
Why This Matters
Many people are told to "eat less salt."
Very few people are shown how to cook that way.
The goal of noaddedsaltguy isn't simply to share recipes.
It's to teach practical cooking systems that help people prepare meals that:
-
taste complete
-
fit real budgets
-
work for families and leftovers
-
reduce reliance on processed foods
-
become easier every time you cook
